Frequently Asked Questions

Plain answers to the questions families ask most often about life insurance.

Getting started

How do I know if I need life insurance?
If someone depends on your income, would struggle to cover your final expenses, or would face financial hardship after you pass, life insurance is worth considering. It's not just for breadwinners — it's for anyone whose absence would create a financial gap for the people they love.
How much coverage do I actually need?
There's no single formula, but a starting point is to consider what you'd want covered: outstanding debts, final expenses, income your family would need to replace, and any goals like leaving something for children or grandchildren. We walk through this with every client — it's one of the first things you'll talk about.
I've been told I'm uninsurable. Is that true?
Not necessarily. Many people who were declined or quoted very high rates by one carrier can qualify for coverage — sometimes at reasonable premiums — through a different carrier or a different product type. Final expense policies, for example, often have simplified or guaranteed issue options. We shop across carriers to find out what's actually available to you.
How long does the application process take?
It depends on the product. Some policies — especially final expense and certain whole life products — can be approved within days with simplified underwriting. Others that require a medical exam may take a few weeks. We'll set honest expectations from the start based on which product fits your situation.

Understanding the products

What is final expense insurance, exactly?
Final expense insurance is a small permanent life insurance policy — typically $5,000 to $25,000 in coverage — specifically designed to cover funeral costs, burial expenses, and other end-of-life bills. Premiums are fixed, the policy never expires, and approval is usually straightforward even for older adults or those with health conditions.
Is whole life insurance worth it?
For the right person, yes. Whole life gives you coverage that never expires, a premium that never changes, and a cash value that grows over time and can be accessed if needed. It costs more than term insurance for the same death benefit, which is why it's worth having an honest conversation about whether the tradeoffs make sense for your situation specifically.
What happens to term insurance when the term ends?
If the term ends while you're still living, the coverage simply stops. You typically have the option to convert to a permanent policy or renew, though premiums at renewal reflect your current age and health. Term is excellent protection during the years you need it most — it's not meant to last forever, and its price reflects that.
What is an Indexed Universal Life policy and who is it for?
An Indexed Universal Life (IUL) policy is a permanent life insurance policy whose cash value grows based on the performance of a stock market index, like the S&P 500, with a floor that protects against losses when the market falls. It's flexible, has tax-advantaged growth potential, and appeals to people who are thinking about wealth transfer, supplementing retirement income, or long-term financial planning. It's more complex than other products and requires a thorough conversation to make sure it fits your goals.

Working with Stella Vita Benefits

What does it cost to get a consultation?
Nothing. A consultation is free and comes with no obligation. We are paid a commission by the insurance carrier if you decide to purchase a policy — you pay nothing out of pocket for our time or advice.
Is Stella Vita Benefits tied to one insurance company?
No. We are an independent agency, licensed to work with multiple carriers. We're not required to push any single company's products, so we can look across the market to find coverage that genuinely fits your age, health, and budget.
What if I have questions after I buy a policy?
We remain your agency after the sale. If you have questions about your policy, need to make changes, or your situation changes, you can reach out and we'll help. That ongoing relationship is part of what independent service means.

Still have questions?

We're happy to answer anything that isn't covered here. A free consultation costs nothing and comes with no pressure.
